Olympic Artwork

Screenshot 2016-09-22 at 10.00.49 AM.png

This term me and Room 10 have been working on a piece of artwork, I have my tessellation, similes and metaphors, vocabulary and my head on a random athlete on my poster.

I will firstly talk about my tessellation.  It is made by a 3.8 sided triangle, my shapes are triangles and hexagons and my colours are blue and yellow.

Secondly I will talk about my similes and metaphors.  They are all in my speech bubbles and thinking bubbles.  Question: which ones are the similes and which ones are metaphors?

Thirdly I will talk about my vocabulary (vocabulary is a fancy name for words).  Here are all my vocabulary
  • Olympics
  • Rio
  • 2016
  • Friendship
  • Excellence
  • Respect
  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Bronze

And last but not least I will talk about my head on a random athlete. I chose a random athlete because I ran out of time, I didn’t get to know her name but that is alright.

I think I have done really well on this piece of art.

Hong Kong S.T.E.M Challenge

Our Materials:
Here are the materials we used:
6 x long sticks
1 x  wooden square
2 x pipe cleaners
2 x straws
1 x 1m ruler
11 x plastic cubes
1 x bunch of popsicle sticks
4 x wooden small flat pieces

Challenge #1 - Build a structure with a cube as the base:
Screenshot 2016-09-07 at 9.51.33 AM.png
Challenge 1 was really hard because our structure fell a couple of times.  The hard thing about this  challenge is that there was a time limit and if it kept falling we would have to start over again.  I think we did well for our first structure, but now  I think we can do better for the next one.

Challenge #2 - Build the tallest structure that you can and your base can be any size:
Screenshot 2016-09-07 at 9.55.35 AM.png
Challenge 2 was really hard because we had to build the tallest structure but the problem was it kept tumbling down.  We ended up being disqualified because we had to many of one material.  But at least we participated and tried, we thought we could complete the next challenge and we did. We think it was because the weight was not equal on both sides.  But then we decided to put two blocks on both sides so it would be an equilateral structure..and that was not allowed and we got disqualified.

Challenge #3 -  Build a structure with something that balances off the side of it:

Challenge 3 was really easy because the block/stick were sitting on the big flat bored.  The hard thing about it was making the little pieces on top balance.  We could have done better, I think by sticking it out more, but at least we tried.

Moment In Time Week 7

before we began today our teacher asked us to write a ‘Moment In Time’ piece using a picture of a boy in the water.  We planned as a class to make sure we had the 5 W’s and the 6 Senses.

Be our writing in small groups we discussed the importance of using descriptive writing, using similes and metaphors where appropriate, using dialogue and have done our best to make sure our punctuation is correct.  Some of us have even used ‘Show Don’t Tell’ in our writing to provide our reader with more of an experience.
Our teacher gave us 10 minutes for each paragraph and then 10 minutes for editing at the end.  We had so much fun working together!

If you have a moment, we would love you to comment on our writing.

Boy Overboard!

In a bright sunny morning, Jack was surfing on the big sparkling waves. Suddenly a big wave came crashing towards him.  SPLASH went the crashing water over Jack as the salty water went up his nostrils, as he tried to catch his breath. “AHHHHH!!!” screamed the little boy as he started to sink deep down in the sea.

As Jack was suffocating to get to the surface, water started rushing down his throat as he tried to swim towards his surfboard, as the water was as cold as ice. Suddenly he saw a gang of humongous sharks circling around him. The closer the sharks came to him, the more terrified he became. His heartbeat pounded as fast as lightning striking every second. He glanced at the creatures, as he grabbed his surfboard trying to surf away. “HELP! HELP!” Jack screamed as his teeth chattered, and his body was numb.

As the sharks came closer, one of them lunged towards him, biting Jack in the ribs. He could hear the crunchiness of the bones snapping, breaking into little pieces. The blood splatted into the creature’s face, as it poured down his hip, into the water.  The gang of sharks circled him like a dosing its tail, as Jack laid on his back looking up into the bright blue sky. “I don’t want to die this way…” Thought Jack to himself as he saw a group of paranis coming towards him.  He saw the creatures teaming up for their next chunk of meat.  His rib started stinging from the salty water, as he wasn’t ready for round 2…

Written by Samia, Kisayah, Maria and Benjamin.

Kisayah:
I think that we all done well because we worked as a team by helping each other with our sentences.  What I think I done well was I helped my team with their punctuation.

Maria:
I think that we all did well because we all worked as a team, and helped each other with our punctuation, similes and many more. What I did well in my group is being open with my ideas and my knowledge to make our piece of writing more interesting.
Benjamin:
What I did well was sharing ideas with my group and putting all the ideas and making it a great moment in time.  What I think I should work on is making the moment in time more interesting for the reader.

Samia:
I think we all did well because we all shared our ideas and made a  really good moment in time.  Also I think we worked well as a team and we checked our punctuations and we made sure it made sense.  I also think we helped each other to make the moment in time a good writing so people can look at it and maybe they can comment.

Moment in time

In the holidays Adam and his friends went to the forest to go play Hide and Seek.  They wanted Adam to be in because he is the one that came up with the idea of going to the forest and play a game.  Adam shouted out “NO I AM NOT GOING TO BE IN LET ELMO BE IN!!” but then Elmo said angrily “NO Coby should be in he is the smart one so he will be able to find us quickly” “No WAY HOSAY I am not being in let Jerry be in”  said Coby “I never got to be a hider so let’s have Adam in” Adam felt as angry as a Lion trying to catch a Geezle but the Geezle keeps running away, be Adam didn’t want to tell his friends because they would be upset.

So Alex said “Ok then before I count you guys turn around” then Alex started to run as fast as lightning but then “OUCH!” Adam had seem to hit a Tiger that is as big as an Elephant so he shouted “A TIGER!”his friends heard him so they ran to him as fast as a cheater trying to catch his prey, when they got there Elmo, Jerry and Coby all said “WOW”, they picked Adam up and they all started to pet the Tiger Elmo said “This Tiger is as soft as a big pile of soft toys” but then “Wait, if we touch something doesn’t that mean that we can’t take our hand of it because it feels so soft” but it was too late they couldn't stop touching it so they had to stay there the whole night.

“OH NO!” said Alex “I LOST MY PHONE!” “ME TOO” said Jerry “AND ME TOO” but the only person that has his phone is Elmo they all shouted out “ELMO!” “what” said Elmo they all said “YOUR PHONE!” so he checked his phone so  they all had nothing except let the tiger eat them so they put them in the tiger's mouth.

Matariki celebration

IMG_0917.JPG

Every year in the late May or the early June there is a Māori celebration called Matariki, it is  where all the māori people come together and spend time together and do all sorts of stuff like kite making, fishing, kapa haka and all sorts of activities, it is also the māori new year.

Me and my buddy Darnell  have been working on our Manu Tukutuku (kite making) for our Matariki celebration at school  we made our Manu with some Māori materials, the materials we used were Raupō (it’s a type of flax), wool and Toetoe.

Across our school our class went to a Toetoe bush, Our class had to say our kadakia to show our tikanga to the Toetoe, (tikanga means why we do for what we do).

The easiest part was cutting the Raupō and putting it on top of the Toetoe, the hardest part was that we had to measure the Toetoe and then we had to figure out how to split it into three pieces.

Room 9 was also doing Manu Tukutuku, they were making it like they were in the olden days, we were just making creative ones.

NZ oprea T1

Jax’s fish ‘n’ chips

Purpose : thank you note

Dear : Jax

Thank you for coming to Rangikura school to share your oprea show.

My most favorite part was when Nemo and Adina got together so Nemo’s  wish came true.  The funny bit was when the salesman gave Nemo a love potion but it was actually L&P.

I loved it so much that I wish that you guys will come back again.
